Frequently asked questions

How do I convert VTT to SRT?

Choose your VTT files, or drop them on the page, and download the SRT files. Several files can be downloaded together as a ZIP, and you can also paste subtitles and copy the result.

Why convert VTT to SRT?

SRT works almost everywhere: VLC, smart TVs, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut and video sites. VTT files downloaded from websites often need converting before you can use them in an editor or player.

What happens to speaker names, styles and positions?

Speaker names can become "Name: text" or be removed. Italics, bold and underline are kept, subtitles at the top get {\an8}, and things SRT can't hold, like styles, notes and karaoke timings, are removed cleanly.

Which line endings should I choose?

Windows line endings work everywhere, including older TVs and Windows programs. Choose Mac and Linux only if a tool asks for it.

Can I shift the timing while converting?

Yes. Type a number of seconds in "Move all subtitles by": a negative number shows them earlier, a positive one later. For subtitles that slowly drift, use the Subtitle Fixer.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser; your subtitle files never leave your device.
