Frequently asked questions

Why won't my PDF open?

PDFs get damaged by interrupted downloads or uploads, full disks, email attachments or programs that crash while saving. Usually the file's index is broken or the end is missing, while the pages themselves are still there.

How does Repair PDF fix a file?

It first rebuilds the file's index and structure, which keeps the text, links, forms and bookmarks. If pages still can't be read, it rewrites them from what can be read, and if the list of pages is lost it rebuilds it from the pages it finds.

Will I get all my pages back?

Everything that is still in the file can usually be recovered. If part of the file was never saved or downloaded, those pages are gone, but the repair keeps every page that survived and tells you how many.

What is Rescue pages on my device?

A second way that works without uploading: your browser shows every page it still can and saves them as pictures in a new PDF. The text can't be selected afterwards; use OCR PDF to make it searchable again.

Can it repair password-protected PDFs?

Remove the password first with Unlock PDF (you need to know it), then repair the file.

Is my file kept?

No. The file is repaired on our server and deleted right after; nothing is stored or shared. Files up to 50 MB work.
