    Frequently asked questions

How do I get the hash of a file?

Open or drop the file. Its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA3, Keccak-256 and CRC-32 hashes appear together, ready to copy.

    How do I check a download's checksum?

Open the file, then paste the checksum from the download page into Compare with a checksum. You see at once whether it matches, and which hash it is.

    Can I hash text?

Yes. Type or paste it and the hashes update as you type. Text is hashed as UTF-8, so the results match other tools and programming languages.

    Which algorithm should I use?

Use SHA-256 or SHA-3 for anything about security. MD5 and SHA-1 are only good for spotting accidental changes, not for passwords or signatures.

Can I get the hash in Base64?

Yes. Choose Show as Base64, or hex in lower or upper case.

    Is my file uploaded?

No. Files are hashed in your browser, so nothing leaves your device, even files of several hundred megabytes.
