    Frequently asked questions

How do I open a PSD file without Photoshop?

Choose your PSD file here. It's shown and converted to JPG or PNG in your browser, with no Photoshop or other software needed.

    Does it keep layers?

The JPG or PNG shows the picture as Photoshop displays it, with all visible layers combined. Layers can't be kept in a JPG or PNG.

    Will the colours look right?

Yes. The colour profile inside the file is used, so RGB, CMYK print files, greyscale and 16- or 32-bit images keep their colours.

Can I keep a transparent background?

Yes. Choose PNG. JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas become white.

Why does my file show a note about “Maximize compatibility”?

That file was saved without Photoshop's flattened copy, so the picture is rebuilt from its layers. Most of it looks the same, but layer effects like shadows aren't shown. Saving again in Photoshop with “Maximize compatibility” on fixes it.

    Are my files uploaded?

No. Your PSD files are opened in your browser and never leave your device. Large PSB files work too.
