Frequently asked questions

How do I copy text from a picture?

Choose your image, pick the language of the text and tap Get text. The text appears in a box, ready to copy or download as a .txt file.

Which languages can it read?

15 languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. English is always added too, because mixed text is common.

Can it read handwriting?

Clear printed text works best. Neat handwriting sometimes works, but messy handwriting usually isn't recognised well.

How do I get the best results?

Use a sharp, well-lit photo taken straight on, with text large enough to read easily. Crop out anything that isn't text.

Is my image safe?

Your image is uploaded over an encrypted connection, read and deleted right away. We don't keep the image or the text.

Can I get the text from a PDF?

If you can select the text in the PDF, just copy it. For a scanned PDF, save its pages as images with PDF to JPG or PNG, then use this tool.
