Frequently asked questions

What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?

1280 × 720 pixels (16:9), as a JPG, PNG or GIF under 2 MB. This tool makes exactly that from any picture, and can also make 1920 × 1080.

How do I keep my thumbnail under 2 MB?

Save it as JPG: the tool picks the highest quality that stays under YouTube's 2 MB limit and tells you the file size.

Can I see how my thumbnail looks before uploading?

Yes. The preview shows it on the home page, in search results, next to another video and on a phone, in light and dark mode, with your title and channel name.

Why is one corner of the thumbnail marked?

YouTube shows the video length in the bottom-right corner. Keep faces and text out of that corner so nothing important is covered.

Can I compare my thumbnail with others?

Yes. Add up to 3 other thumbnails and they appear next to yours in the previews, so you can see which one stands out.

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser; your pictures never leave your device.
