    Frequently asked questions

    What is Bates numbering?

A unique number on every page of a document set, like ABC000001, ABC000002 and so on. Lawyers and auditors use it to refer to any page exactly.

Can I number several PDFs in one go?

Yes. Add all the files, put them in order with the arrows, and the numbers run on from one file to the next.

Can I choose the prefix and the number of digits?

Yes. Add a prefix and a suffix, choose where to start and how many digits to use, for example 6 for 000001.

    How are the files named?

Each file can be named by its range, like ABC000001-ABC000045.pdf. With several files you get a ZIP with an index (a CSV file) listing every file and its first and last number.

Will the number cover my content?

It sits in the corner you choose, with a white box behind it so it stays readable on any background. Rotated pages are numbered the right way up.

    Are my documents uploaded?

No. Numbering happens in your browser, so confidential files never leave your device.
