Frequently asked questions

How is engagement rate calculated?

Add up a post's likes, comments, shares and saves, divide by your followers and multiply by 100. For TikTok and YouTube the calculator uses views instead, because that is how those platforms measure reach.

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?

It depends on account size: accounts under 10,000 followers typically get about 2.5–5%, while accounts with over a million get about 0.6–1.5%. The calculator compares your rate with the range for accounts your size.

Should I use followers, reach or views?

Followers is the most common and lets you compare accounts. Reach shows how engaging a post was for the people who actually saw it. Views is the standard for videos. Fill in what you have: the calculator shows every rate it can work out.

Can I calculate the average of several posts?

Yes. Choose "Several posts" and type the numbers, or copy the columns from a spreadsheet and paste them. You get the average rate, the interactions per post and your best post.

Can I type numbers like 12.5k or 1.2M?

Yes. 12.5k, 1.2M, 12,500 and 12 500 all work, so you can copy numbers straight from the app.

Are the typical ranges exact?

No. They are rounded from public industry reports and change with your niche, country and the kind of posts. Use them as a guide, and compare your own posts over time.
