    Frequently asked questions

    What is Base64 for images?

It turns a picture into plain text, so you can put it straight into HTML, CSS, JSON or an email template without a separate image file.

How do I convert an image to Base64?

Choose one or more images, pick the output you need, then tap Copy or Download .txt.

    Which output should I choose?

Data URL works almost everywhere. Choose HTML <img> tag to paste into a web page, CSS background for a stylesheet, Markdown for README files, or Base64 only for APIs that want the bare text.

Why is the Base64 text bigger than my image?

Base64 uses about 4 characters for every 3 bytes, so the text is roughly a third larger than the file. It's best for small images like icons and logos.

    Which image types work?

JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, SVG, AVIF, ICO and BMP, up to 25 MB each.

    Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion happens in your browser, so your images never leave your device.
