Frequently asked questions

How do I put a password on a PDF?

Choose your PDF, type a password twice and tap Protect PDF. Anyone who opens the file will need that password.

How strong is the protection?

It uses AES-256 encryption, the strongest standard for PDFs. A long password with letters, numbers and symbols is much harder to guess.

What if I forget the password?

It can't be recovered by anyone, including us. Write it down somewhere safe, and keep an unprotected copy if you might need one.

Is my password stored?

No. It's used once to lock the file and then thrown away, and the file is deleted from our server right after.

Why does it say my PDF already has a password?

Bridge doesn't add a second password to a locked PDF. Remove the old password first if you want to change it.

Will it open in any PDF reader?

Yes. Adobe Reader, web browsers, phones and Mac Preview all ask for the password and then open it normally.
